How Workplaces Can Support People Returning To Work

Cognitive behavioural therapy in Manchester could be what you need in order to be able to get back to work as quickly as possible.

If you have been off work due to mental health problems then you need to make sure that when you do return to work it happens in a way that is best for you.

Companies can take a number of steps to ensure that people who have been off work due to mental health issues should be able to return to work with adequate support.

Despite increased awareness of mental health conditions and the impact they may have on work, there are still a number of ways in which people are facing barriers to returning to work a recent survey carried out on behalf of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) by researchers at a university in the Netherlands.

This included a perceived lack of trust in them from management and other colleagues, and a sense that management would prefer to dismiss them rather than help them return to work.

However, there are warnings that failing to help people to return to work could be costing UK business up to £8 billion a year.

‘Good employment is beneficial for people’s health, especially for their mental health,’ says Shelley Frost, director of strategic development at IOSH. ‘And positive feelings about work have been linked with higher productivity, profitability and customer and worker loyalty.’

So, if you are returning to work soon make sure you get the best return to work plan your workplace can provide.
