Empathy

Empathy. It's Not Just About Being Nice. 😊

We talk about empathy like it's simply being kind to other people.

It's so much more than that.

Empathy is the ability to step outside your own experience and genuinely feel into someone else's. To say — I don't fully understand your situation, but I'm willing to try.

And here's the bit nobody talks about — empathy doesn't just help the person receiving it. It transforms the person giving it.

When you develop genuine empathy something shifts in you. The driver who cut you up this morning? Maybe they're rushing to a hospital. The colleague who snapped at you? Perhaps they haven't slept in days. The partner who seems distant? They might be carrying something they don't know how to say.

Empathy asks — what if there's more to this than I can see?

That question alone can dissolve arguments, repair relationships and change the entire atmosphere of a room.

Dr Joe Dispenza talks about the heart and mind working in coherence — when we lead with compassion rather than defence, our whole nervous system responds differently. We become calmer. More open. More connected.

In therapy empathy is everything. I bring it to every session. And slowly — gently — I help clients bring it to themselves.

Because here's the truth that surprises people most.

The hardest person to have empathy for is often yourself.

And that's exactly where we start. 💛
