Up and Down
Up. Down. Fine. Not Fine. Sound Familiar? 😊
One minute you're okay.
The next you're not. And you're not entirely sure what changed.
Mood swings. We all have them to some degree. But for some people they're not just occasional — they're exhausting. Unpredictable. And starting to affect everything. Relationships. Work. The way you feel about yourself.
And the most frustrating part? You can't always explain them. Someone asks what's wrong and the honest answer is — I genuinely don't know.
Here's what I've come to understand.
Moods rarely come from nowhere. They come from somewhere — a thought, a memory, a trigger so subtle you barely noticed it. But your nervous system did. And it responded.
Dr Joe Dispenza talks about how our bodies become addicted to certain emotional states. If you've lived in stress or anxiety for a long time your body actually starts to crave that feeling. It's familiar. So it creates it — even when life is going well.
That's why some people can't enjoy the good times. They're waiting for something to go wrong. And that waiting — that bracing — creates its own kind of low mood.
Bob Proctor said your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts. Which means if we change the thinking — we can change the feeling.
Not overnight. Not perfectly. But genuinely, sustainably, changeably.
Mood swings are not just who you are. They are messages worth listening to.
In therapy we decode them together. And we find the pattern underneath.
Because there always is one. 💛
