What is Depression...

What is Depression...

In today's society the word depression, seems almost common place. Doctors are handing out anti-depressants to many patients who come through their doors, as they haven't the time to listen to what is going on with the patient's life.

These anti-depressants are given to out to help you cope with the issue's that are going on for you.

Depression can be a very lonely and dark place.

Feelings of fear, hopelessness and being constantly tired.

A feeling that nobody understands, just what you are going through.

Depression can affect your work, and your family and friends, who might feel they are unable to help. You may feel that you don't enjoy the things you used too.

Your thoughts tend to be negative, and you cannot see a way forward.

I have found during my many years of counselling, that some clients that are presenting with depression, whether they are on anti-depressants or not, desperately need someone to talk to.

It is my experience that talking therapy is a very natural and safe way to combat depression.

Talking therapy is not a quick fix treatment, and depending on the client may go on for some time.

The positive effects can enable a person to have the knowledge and understanding to move forward with their lives in a positive way.

Clients usually feel a sense of relief to be able to express all their issue's, and bring them out into the open, without fear of being judged or upsetting anyone.

To look at why they are feeling this way, what may have been the cores?

Bereavement, loss of a job, relationship breakdown, low self esteem are some of the many reasons why a person might have prolonged depression.

By looking at alternative ways of thinking, this can induce a feeling of power and control over a person life, which can result in a happier person.

It is not known of how people suffer from depression in the UK today, as many people try to cope with it on their own, not admitting they have a problem. Depression can manifest itself in any age group, and can effect both sexes.
